Body of Missing Group Home Resident Found in Croton Reservoir

Yorktown police identified him as Steven Lorenz, 24, who went missing yesterday.

Yorktown police report the recovery of Steven Lorenz’ body from the Croton Reservoir.

Police received a phone call this morning reporting what was believed to be a dead person submerged at the shoreline of the reservoir.

They responded to the scene along with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. Scuba divers from the DEP recovered the body.

It was identified by group home supervisors from the St. Jude Habilitation Institute as Steven Lorenz, 24, for whom police had started a search yesterday.

Lorenz suffered from schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder, police had said. He had last been seen on Croton Lake Road, in the area where the group home is located.

The recovery of the body was hampered by the remoteness of the area and the steepness of the terrain, police said.

An investigation continues with the assistance of the Westchester Medical Examiner and the Westchester District Attorney’s Office.
