Go Ahead and Do It...You Will Be Amazed at What Happens

Like me, I am sure you have heard how important it is to be grateful. While I totally agree, I like to incorporate a concept that is related to gratitude into my life.

Like me, I am sure you have heard how important it is to be grateful. While I totally agree, I like to incorporate a concept that is related to gratitude into my life – telling the people who matter to me how great they are!!!

It is so easy to look at what our kids, partners or coworkers are NOT doing. But, in many ways, it is more difficult to recognize and praise them for what is great about them. But, trust me, there is always something praiseworthy you can find, even if you have to look a little… In doing so, you may find what you learn about yourself is an unanticipated gift.

Here are some of my personal examples where I praised the other person, some of which are obvious and others not so much.

  1. Working with a client recently, I noticed that she pushed me to be the best coach I could be. I appreciated her bringing that out in me.
  2. My 20-year-old son, who was home for college, took my car to New York City without permission and damaged it. Still, just afterward, he was able to offer me some profound advice when I needed it.
  3. My cleaning lady, a true comedian who brings laughter into our home.
  4. My daughter, for her wit and calming presence.
  5. My husband for not only being wonderful, but for challenging me when I need it.

I could go on and on, but you get the gist.

Please go ahead and give it a try, if praising the people in your life is not a regular part of you repertoire. You may not realize that most people feel insecure, so your praise could actually be a profound boost for them. And, at the end of the day, YOU will feel so full and content in doing so.

I hope that by the next time I write to you, Spring will have arrived in New York. In the meantime, we are (im)patiently waiting.

Looking forward to hearing your comments.
