Breeze Completes 1 King Street
Downtown Chappaqua's newest store, which sells interior decorative items, fills in a long-vacant space on lower King Street.
When opened last week as downtown Chappaqua's newest business, pink and blue balloons festooned the entryway to mark its grand opening.
The opening, coming after the arrivals of and earlier this year, marked the end of a vacancy in the last remaining section of Petticoat Lane’s former home on 1 King St., which was subdivided into three spaces. It had been fully or partially empty since that store departed more than a year ago for its current location near the intersection of King and South Greeley Avenue.
A decorated dining room table greets shoppers as they enter the store. Tableware and entertaining are featured at Breeze, and proprietor Susan Maher has set an inviting table.

After managing stores for Crate & Barrel and raising her children as a stay-at-home mom, Maher began her quest for products at a gift show last winter.
Maher showed off a flowering tea pot. “When the tea steeps, it flowers,” she said. “I really love this saltware,” she said, pointing to plates that are made of Himalayan pink colored salt. “You can put them in the freezer, oven, and on top of the stove,” Maher added.

For the hors d’oeuvres part of any menu, Maher recommends serving an actual honeycomb from Savannah Bee Honey. Guests scoop out the honeycomb and devour it on crackers.
Several items in particular will strike the fancy of kids. There are kits to bake a muffin in a pot, lacrosse bags and mother-daughter aprons.
Aurora FT owner Dawn Greenberg stopped by to shop for teacher gifts.
“We’re going to make our own little gift world on lower King Street,” she said referring to her neighbors.
Alissa Harvey, owner of The King’s Scribe, was equally welcoming to her new neighbor.
“I’m thrilled to have her here. She’s done a beautiful job renovating her store,” she said.
“We all compliment each other,” Maher added.
“I love color, it’s energizing, fun,” she related. Pointing to a line of French table linens in lush burgundy and berry tones she continued, “It exemplifies my push for color.”
