Bringing Horse Sense to Humans...but without the Horse.

The STUCK stops here. Psychotherapy and Life coaching, with Equine Therapy roots now available in Bedford.

Licensed Psychotherapist, Certified Career/Life Coach and Equine Therapy Clinician, David Sonatore, LMSW, is proud to announce the expansion of his private practice into the heart of Bedford Village. The move complements his established NYC practice, located near Grand Central, and his horse-inspired not for profit, The Equus Effect, in Litchfield County, CT.

“Given this area’s legendary history with horses, serving Bedford and its surrounding communities seemed like a natural next step in a long and intuitive progression.”

In addition to his multidisciplinary approaches in the fields of Psychotherapy and Coaching, David is also the co-founder of The Equus Effect, a non-profit assisting traumatized combat veterans through Equine Facilitated Therapy.

“The horses are profoundly effective at helping these vital individuals re-learn how to regulate their nervous systems and, while our civilian experience rarely compares in scope or gravity, it is important that we too become aware of how our own emotional dis-regulation contributes to symptoms of depression and anxiety.”

It was during a yearlong internship, working within the geographical limitations of counseling inmates in Harlem, that David discovered the necessity of bringing the work he was doing on the farm into the clinical setting. He has since crafted an accessible approach that enhances the more traditional therapeutic modalities from his post-graduate training.

“Advances in neurobiology and somatic psychology have been pivotal in helping me create a bridge between the round corral and the office. Clients across the spectrum have been embracing it wholeheartedly with curiosity and enthusiasm.”

David is also trained in Somatic Experiencing, a body based approach to healing trauma developed by Dr. Peter Levine. It was founded upon the observation that wild prey animals, though threatened routinely, are rarely traumatized.

“I was very drawn to Somatic Experiencing work given my understanding of the horse as prey animal and, also, a deep-seated resonance with their mission which suggests that ‘Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence.’”

David is now accepting private clients at his 3 Court Road location in Bedford Village. Those interested can reserve a 30-minute no-fee consultation by contacting David at: 347-439-1777, by email at Pegasus718@me.com or by visiting: www.PegasusCreative.com
