The local Episcopal Church welcomes interim minister, Rev. Gwyneth Murphy. Gwyneth has served parishes in the Dioceses of Utah, California and New York. Most recently she was the Interim at St. Gregory’s in Woodstock.

Reverend Murphy grew up in White Plains and graduated from Barnard College and Fordham Law School before pursuing her call to ordained ministry (Harvard Divinity School). Campus ministry, hospital and hospice chaplaincy, youth ministry, retreats and spiritual direction have given her the opportunity to grow into the ministry to which she was first called in 1978.

“My theology and spirituality are both influenced by and expressed throughout feminist thought, ecology, Celtic spiritually and dance,” she wrote to the Parish. “I look forward to sharing these with you, as you share your experience with me.” She is pleased to see the active children’s programs at St. Mary’s and hopes to be a companion, guide and leader to both youth & adults in the Parish.

The Church of St. Mary the Virgin (SMTV) continues to be a Center for Progressive Christianity. Members are of all ages, and come from New Castle and other neighboring towns. Some come from other religious traditions, some are cradle Episcopalians, some are families of mixed faith. St. Mary’s welcomes people from all religious traditions, wherever they may be on their spiritual journey.

The Community is invited to welcome “Rev G” at a “Sunday School Kick-off Picnic” on Sunday, September 7 after the 10am service. Sunday School is offered weekly during the school year for children ages 3-18. Traditional Bible School classes for elementary levels are followed and the “Journey to Adulthood” program is used for teens.

Reverend Joel Mason, who served this Parish for over 17 years has retired after a total of 30 years service to The Episcopal Church. His dedication, commitment, exceptional liturgy and music will be missed by all who worship at St. Mary’s.
