Chappaqua School District Attorneys Say Students to Blame for Abuse By Ex-Drama Teacher
Christopher Schraufnagel still faces criminal charges.

Chappaqua, NY — Students who said they were abused by an ex-Horace Greeley High School drama teacher and are suing the school district have only themselves to blame, school officials said.
Chappaqua Central School District’s attorneys said in court papers that the four students, who were 15 at the time, caused or contributed to the abuse by being careless, reckless and negligent, according to an article at lohud.com.

The school district denies any responsibility in the abuse by Christopher Schraufnagel, which is alleged to have occurred between 2011 and 2015, an Associated Press article at KSL.com said.

Charges against Schraufnagel include one count of third-degree criminal sex act, a felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and four counts of third-degree sexual abuse, all misdemeanors.
Schraufnagel resigned September 4 after teaching 12 years at Greeley.
