Chappaqua Sidewalk Sale Days

Three sale dates offer discounts and open-air shopping.

Among Chappaqua's summertime rituals are concerts in the park, softball games, and of course the sidewalk sale days. This year's three-day event started on the high note of Thursday's sunshine and lower humidity.

Following a night of heavy winds and hailstones, bargain hunters took advantage of the good weather and the bargains to be had. Racks of clothing crowded the sidewalks in front of Family Britches, Squire's and Great Stuff. Recent temperatures in the 90s-be-damned down and quilted jackets dared browsers to have a look.

One Chappaqua resident, who did not wish to be named, said she goes every year but may have to reduce her purchases this time with two kids going to camp.

Desires by Mikolay said it did a brisk business on the first day; for Friday it is consolidating the merchandise under its tent, but there is still a selection of earrings, necklaces and bracelets from which to choose.

This year, Petticoat Lane and Phyllis Jacobson's bag shop occupied its new space on King Street inside and out. Look for the white tent protecting the bags and accessories from the elements.

Rain or shine, the sale continues. Many merchants will just bring the sidewalk sale back into their shops.

Even food is on sale. Chappaqua Village Market has specials, as does Gail Patrick's Café.

Don't forget that Chappaqua merchants are located in stores other than those at the intersection of King Street and Greeley Avenue. Rhodadendron is having sales-they are at the village yard just north of the Horace Greeley house. Farther up King Street, across from D'Agostino supermarket, Kent home furnishings is also participating in the three-day sale.

The sale continues through July 24.
