Don't Miss: “Gossip Tour” of Merestead

The mansion and its family, covered exhaustively in the social pages, are an interesting part of Westchester County history.

MOUNT KISCO, NY — Hear all about the lives of the people who lived in one of Westchester’s grand houses as you follow the Sloane-Patterson family during a “Gossip Tour” of Merestead on Feb. 26, at the estate in Mount Kisco.

“Merestead and the Sloane-Patterson family are an interesting part of Westchester County history,” Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino said in an announcement about the special event. “This tour is a fun way to learn about the family and their daily lives during the early and middle part of the 20th century.”

Beginning at 1 p.m., curator Gigi Carnes will lead visitors on a tour of this early 1900s Neo-Georgian mansion and discuss what is was like for the family through the social media of the day where everything they did was recorded in the newspaper and the social pages through seven decades of newspaper coverage, spanning from when they first purchased Merestead to the decision to deed it to Westchester County. And, you’ll even get the inside scoop as to what the owners thought of their servants, as well as what the servants thought of the owners!
