Education, Health, Business Services, Construction: Strongest NY Job Sectors

For the past year, Education, Health and Business Services have been among the strongest job sectors in New York.

According to the New York Department of Labor, in the 12 months ending in December 2015:

• Private educational and health services added the most jobs (+73,400) of any major industry sector over the past year. Sector job gains were mostly in health care and social assistance (+53,700), especially ambulatory health care services (+32,200).
• The second largest employment increase over the past year occurred in professional and business services (+27,000), with sector gains centered in professional, scientific and technical services (+16,500), and administrative and support services (+9,000).
• Construction had the third largest increase in jobs (+26,700) between December 2014 and December 2015. Over the past year, sector job gains were mostly in specialty trade contractors (+23,400).

Professional and Business Services span many different industries, whether it’s management or clerical or custodial.

Educational Services occupations are more workplace-specific: administrators, teachers and teaching assistants.

That’s true too for Health Care and Social Assistance, which includes medical and health services managers, home health aides and licensed vocational and licensed practical nurses.
