Election 2016 Aftermath: Service for Healing Friday in Chappaqua

It is dedicated towards the healing of the country, starting with relationships between friends and neighbors.

CHAPPAQUA, NY — Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester will hold a special service on Friday night that is open to all.

It is dedicated towards the healing of the country, which became bitterly divided in many ways during the long political campaign, starting with the relationships with friends and neighbors.

"As our community and nation come to terms with the results of Tuesday's national election and the sense of fracture and discord which underscored the process, we would like to offer a safe space for individuals of all political and religious persuasions to gather, connect and be present for one another," said Rabbi Jonathan Jaffe.

Co-led by seventh-graders, the service will include prayers for the country and those who lead it, a brief teaching on the Torah's view of constitutional authority and power, and the singing of God Bless America. Participants will be encouraged to share their feelings and experiences with one another at an oneg featuring an American Flag cake as well as perhaps a few mixed drinks for adults.

"On Election Day we saw an incredible amount of community involvement and civic responsibility," said New Castle Town Supervisor Rob Greenstein in an announcement about the service. "It was a very exciting day in our community – especially for many of our kids. The amount of people who came out to vote and support our neighbor Hillary Clinton was wonderful to see. As I have said again and again, our town is made up of so many impressive people who give to others and who are willing to serve. Thank you to our neighbor Hillary Clinton for her life-long service to our country."
