Familiar Face Named Fox Lane Middle School Principal

The district went through not one but two search processes.

BEDFORD, NY — Fox Lane Middle School's Principal Sue Ostrofsky will be staying on for a while.

She has had quite a ride with the Bedford schools in the past couple of years. She came to the district in 1994 after teaching for nine years in Dobbs Ferry and was appointed principal of Mount Kisco Elementary School in 2004.

She became interim principal at Fox Lane Middle School and then was given the permanent appointment there in 2017.

She announced her retirement in early 2018. But the district simply wasn't able to find anyone they wanted to replace her. So they talked her into staying.

Here's the letter Superintendent Christopher Manno sent to the community:

Dear BCSD Families and Community Members :
You may or may not know that earlier this school year Mrs. Susan Ostrofsky announced her retirement from the position of Principal of Fox Lane Middle School. The District conducted an extensive search and interview process to secure a new principal and did not find a suitable candidate. The District engaged in yet again another extensive search and interview process, and this second search also did not result in a suitable candidate.
After much discussion with Mrs. Ostrofsky, and with the prospect of BCSD securing an Interim Principal for FLMS, Mrs. Ostrofsky has decided not to retire. This is an example of Mrs. Ostrofsky’s deep and profound commitment to children, BCSD, Fox Lane MS, and our entire school community. After long talks about the progress of the past two years, Sue does not want the MS to be left in the hands of an interim principal, with two more inevitable leadership transitions for our children, families, and staff. Sue’s intention is to stay for more than one year.
Please join me in “welcoming back” Mrs. Ostrofsky as the valued leader of Fox Lane Middle School and in thanking her for placing her and her family’s plans on hold. We are indebted to Mrs. Ostrofsky for her selfless dedication to students, quality education, and the tenets of our BCSD SUCCESS Plan. Thank you, Sue.
Sincerely,

Dr. Christopher Manno,
Superintendent of Schools

Ostrofsky holds a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership from Columbia University Teachers College and a master's degree from Long Island University. the interim in become the permanent principal effective July 1.
