Fire Destroys Bedford House

Multiple fire departments, including from Bedford's three hamlets, Mount Kisco and Chappaqua intervened.

A house in Bedford was destroyed by a fire Friday night.

The fire at the building, located at 91 Hickory Ln., at the end of the long roadway, had been completely engulfed by the time firefighters arrived, according to Bedford Fire Chief Joanne Aquilino. She said that a neighbor had reported the fire, and that they responded around 10:30 p.m.

The fire was eventually put out, but smoke and small flickers of flame remained for a period afterward. Two firefighers sustained minor, heat-related injuries and were taken to Northern Westchester Hospital, according to Aquilino.

The owners of the one-story structure of roughly 1,000 square feet were not present during the fire, but Aquilino said they came and talked with police. No cause is yet known, and it is still under investigation by the Westchester County Cause and Origin Team, according to Aquilino.

Fire departments from throughout the region responded. They were: Bedford, Bedford Hills, Katonah, Mount Kisco, Chappaqua, Pound Ridge, Armonk and Banksville. Volunteer ambulance groups from Katonah-Bedford Hills, Pound Ridge, Mount Kisco and Lewisboro were also present, said Aquilino. Westchester EMS was also present.

A long hose was brought down, with water sourced from a pond near Pound Ridge Road, according to Aquilino. Tankers were also used.

Editor's Note: The original version of this story described the injuries as being smoke related. They were heat related, and the story has been fixed to reflect that.
