Former Lewisboro Elementary School PTA Donates $50,000
The group voted to distribute the remaining funds to various education-related organizations.

The former Lewisboro Elementary School PTA, which shut down at the conclusion of the 2013-14 school year when the school was closed, announced it will distribute the group’s remaining $50,000 to various district educational initiatives.
Specific figures were not disclosed, but the group said in a release that the ”bulk of the money was carried over to the Increase Miller and Meadow Pond PTAs to cover the increased costs associated with LES students joining the schools.”
John Jay Middle and High schools also received some of the funding, as did the new Lewisboro Library.

Fundraising for the PTA has traditionally paid for enrichment activities, field trips, special events, teacher appreciation and much more. During the final school year, it also helped to organize and fund transitional activities to help smooth the moving process for its students
At the end of the 2013-14 school year, the LES PTA was left with a balance of approximately $50,000. The PTA executive board and general membership voted on distribution of these monies. The bulk of the money was carried over to the Increase Miller and Meadow Pond PTAs to cover the increased costs associated with LES students joining the schools. Gaga Pits – popular ball games played in an octagonal enclosure – were purchased for the MPES and IMES playgrounds and will be installed in the spring.
Money was also gifted to the John Jay Middle and High Schools for special projects, which included a new reading area in the middle school library and benches for relaxing outside the cafeteria at the high school. A donation to the district’s Special Education PTA helped to fund summer programming. Scholarships to graduating John Jay seniors who attended LES will continue as in the past to cover each class that graduated from LES. The KL Foundation, which provides funds to enrich the educational experience in KLSD schools, also received a monetary gift.
Lastly, the LES PTA made a donation to the new Lewisboro Library. Library patrons will see a new display case and commemorative brick dedicated to LES.
