Foxes Take Shine Out of Rye

The Foxes give Garnets a 13-0 drubbing.

The Fox Lane Foxes got the best of the Rye Garnets Thursday.

"It's just a disappointment," said Rye Assistant Coach James Kennedy of the 13-0 defeat at Rye's Disbrow Park. "We are a much better team than this," he said.

Fox Lane Coach Matt Hillis described the shutout win as "absolutely unbelieveable."

Fox Lane led 4-0 at the end of the first before both teams bats went dry in the second.

Frustrations showed on the Garnets faces as they searched for ways to pull within reach of the Foxes.

However, the Foxes continued their dominance with another two runs in the third and fifth innings.

Late and missed throws to first base proved to be the difference throughout the game, especially in the top of the sixth as the Foxes tallied four runs and the eventual 13-0 final.

Fox Lane accompanied their run totals with 12 hits on the day. Rye had difficulty hitting with only a couple bluke hits as a Fox seemed to always make the catch for the out.

Jake Meyerson pitched six innings before Garnets Head Coach Mike Bruno relieved him for Kevin Turco.

Chris Nast gave up three hits, striking out three in six innings pitched for the Foxes.

It was the second time since Tuesday that both teams played each other. Tuesday's game ended in a 6-5 loss for Rye as Fox Lane scored on a walk-off homerun.

Kennedy noted that the Garnets are working hard and hope to rebound from Thursday's loss.

Rye  (0-3) next plays Port Chester at Rye Recreation Park on Saturday in a Tournament, while Fox Lane (3-0) is home to Roy C. Ketchman Friday.
