If you are on your way to shop at , the first thing you might see is a giant striped bass carved from snow, staring with its gaping mouth.

The fish, which appears to be several feet long, took about three and a half hours to sculpt Friday, thanks to the work of Joe DeLuise and Kevin Falco, who are, respectively, a seafood processor and a salesperson.

The two spent time shaping and coloring the giant creature from what was just an ordinary mound of snow. According to DeLuise, tools used including two shovels, a small, wooden board and buckets of water, which were used to turn some of the snow into slush in order to shape it. Paint was used to fill in black stripes, the pink mouth and blue waves on the ground for water. Placed next to the sculpture are a fishing rod and a sign that reads "Fresh Fish Specialties Every Day."

The idea of carving a giant marine creature in the snow was conceived by owner Joe DiMauro, who came up with the idea last winter, the two explained. That idea resulted in a giant whale, which proved to be a popular treat for people heading to the store, according to Falco; the feedback was "real positive," he said. This year's striped bass, so far in its brief existence, has also garned interested. DeLuise said that people were taking pictures of it. Customers were also giving compliments.

It is hoped that, based on weather forecasts, the fish will last for a week, DeLuise said, with maintenance planned.
