Greeley Boys Basketball Holds off Yorktown, 49-44, Finishing Boosters Tournament
Game was last for boys in three-day Greeley Sports Boosters tournament.
The Horace Greeley boys basketball team held on to beat the Yorktown Huskers, 49-44, in the final boys game of Saturday's Greeley Sports Boosters tournament.
The three-day tournament was organized by the boosters, along with Greeley's athletic department. A toy drive was part of the event, as people could donate toys instead of paying for admission.
The Quakers had previously beaten Riverside, 79-28, on Friday, while the Huskers also beat Riverside, 55-25 on Thursday.

Greeley Head Coach Dave Fernandes was pleased by the performances of both squads.
"It was a fun day," Fernandes said. "It was a great game."

Yorktown Head Coach Steve Veteri expected a hard-fought match up against the Quakers. "Every time we play them it's always a battle," he said.
Both coaches are not worried about the close game early on in the season, stating that their players are beginning to come together for successful runs into the playoffs.
There was a close first quarter. Notable plays included Donta Dixon's three-pointer to eliminate a 5-2 Huskers lead, tying the score at 5-5. Greeley sophomore Teddy Graves put the Quakers back up 7-5 before junior Aidan Fullerton tied it again at 7-7 for the Huskers, until the Quakers went ahead 11-8.
Things rolled along for the Quakers in the second quarter until the Huskers came back from being down 22-12 on seven straight points from senior Chris Mosca to trail 24-19.
Senior Jordan Moody then pulled the Huskers within three, 24-21.
In the third quarter, Dixon's second shot out of the break briefly put the Huskers up 25-24 before Greeley's Graves flipped the margin to 26-25 with less than four minutes remaining in the quarter.
Senior Captain Matt Townsend was a major force in the second half scoring four straight points that put the Quakers up 30-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
Greeley maintained its dominance in the final period, 38-27, with key offensive rebounds before Moody pulled the Huskers within five, to 49-44 with less than 10 seconds to go in regulation for the eventual final.
Townsend led the Quakers with 21 points. Notable scorers for the Huskers were Dixon, who transferred from Woodlands High School, led the Huskers with 18, while Moody had 13.
Yorktown hosts Lakeland in another tough battle Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. while Greeley hosts Peekskill at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
