Greeley Football Holds Strongman Competition

Teammates test their strength with running and heavy lifting.

Members of next fall's football team gathered Saturday for the annual Strongman Competition, in which players test their physical feats of strength against each other in a series of heavy lifting rounds.

Players ran across the field with heavy weights, either pulling them with their arms or by resting them on their shoulders with a device. They also pushed large tires in an individual round, then got together in groups to push gigantic tires.

The competition attracted a number of spectators, including former Greeley football players. A member of the New Castle Police Department, Daniel Corrado, participated with the students.

"If you're here, you're part of the team," said Pete Zimmerman, who coaches youth football and had many of thecurrent varsity players when they were younger.

According to parent Jim Nottingham, who helps out locally with sports, the winners in the competition were: Jamie Nottingham for the lightweight division, Justin Ciero for the middleweight division, and Tyler Ferguson for the heavyweight division.

Jim Nottingham, Jamie's father, said he is an "extremely proud father."
