Greeley Wrestling Offers Judo Clinic

Program for wrestlers and families

(Below is an account of the judo program, written by wrestling coach Mike DeBellis)

The Horace Greeley wrestling program recently offered ten sessions of judo to wrestlers and their families.  Mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers participated, along with wrestlers of all ages, in this clinic run by Noah and Larry Zaslow.

Larry Zaslow is second in the world in his judo division. Larry and his son, Noah Zaslow, put together practical and informative lessons for the participants.

One of the highlights of the clinic was watching eighth grader, Noah Zaslow compete in the Walter Ing 6th Dan Memorial Jr. Judo Tournament at Salesian High School in New Rochelle. Noah put together a string of great bouts to earn champion status and bring home the gold.

Noah is trained by his sensei, Katsuo Watanabe, an eighth degree black belt, and his father, Lawrence Zaslow. Noah also took bronze at the New York State Judo Junior Olympics.

Great teachers are coaches, and great coaches are teachers. Larry and Noah personified this statement.  It was a great pleasure to be part of the class and to be around such professionals.

The Horace Greeley wrestling program is indebted to team Zaslow and looks forward to offering more clinics next year through the New Castle Recreation Department.  If you are interested, please contact Mike Debellis at midebellis@ccsd.ws
