Groundbreaking: Scarsdale Middle School District
Scarsdale Union Free School District held a groundbreaking ceremony marking the beginning of renovation projects that are to be completed
Scarsdale Union Free School District held a groundbreaking ceremony on December 14, 2016 marking the beginning of renovation and addition projects that are to be completed at Scarsdale Middle School. The projects are part of an $18 million dollar bond referendum that was passed in December 2014.
The project’s primary focus is a new—approximately 3400sf—orchestra classroom addition. The existing middle school music area was too small to accommodate both the orchestra and band program together. A new dedicated orchestra room will allow the orchestra program and the band program to have separate yet adjacent learning spaces. New storage space will also be created in order to properly store music and theater equipment. Renovations will include creating an additional general music classroom by repurposing an area that is currently being utilized as a practice/storage space. Furthermore, all new and renovated spaces will receive infrastructure upgrades including mechanical, electrical and plumbing.
“KG+D is committed to our partnership with Scarsdale Union Free School District,” said Russell Davidson, FAIA President of KG+D Architects, “we are excited to collaborate with Scarsdale Middle School to fulfill the potential of the orchestra classroom addition in order to better serve the middle school community and to both maintain and advance the environment of excellence that is well established in the Scarsdale Union Free School District.”
