Holiday Cheer for Crowds at Kisco Tree Lighting [VIDEO]

Village kicks off its holiday season with its annual community gathering, from carols to Santa.

The plaza between Mount Kisco Village Hall and the library was picked Friday night, has families sang carols and got a visit from Santa Claus before the tall pine tree was lit up as a Christmas beacon.

The annual tree lighting, sponsored by the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce, serves as a big event for the community. Turnout was about 300 this year, according to Kathleen Mooney, the chamber's executive director.

“This is the most wonderful time of the year and it’s a time that we have to look at each other and smile, take care of our neighbors and start enjoying this wonderful season," said Mayor Michael Cindrich, who was joined by his fellow elected officials. Village Hall's newly renovated front portico served as the speaking platform.

Noting the business connection with the holidays, Cindrich asked people to shop locally.

“It’s your village. We’re all proud to be here.”

Santa Claus made a quick stop over, waving from the hall's second floor and talking with the crowd.

The crowd sang along to the big tunes, including Rudolph the Red Nose Raindeer and Feliz Navidad. The culmination came when the tree was lit with a count down. Afterward, families headed over to the American Legion for cookies, cocoa and with Santa greeting people in line.

Folks with smitten with lighting.

“I love the tree lighting," said Martina Brey, who brought her kids. "We come every year.”

Christine Sacco said the event was awsome, adding that she is teaching her 2-year-old twins about who Santa is.

Dan Taplitz, owner of local computer consulting company Right Click Solutions, is a chamber member. He said, “it’s a very small-knit community,” and added that the turnout was good.
