Joseph Sullivan Appointed New Assistant Principal At Horace Greeley HS

The Chappaqua Central School District is proud to announce Joseph Sullivan, Ed.D, as a new Assistant Principal at Horace Greeley High School, effective September 24, 2022.

Dr. Sullivan currently serves as the Principal of Dover Middle School in Dover Plains, NY. At Dover, he designed and implemented a new master schedule and planned and implemented professional learning for staff. Through coaching and collaboration with stakeholders, he created inclusive, equitable, and technology-rich learning spaces for students, faculty, and families.

Previous to his principalship, he held multiple Assistant Principal roles, including at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School and Havilland Middle School, both in Hyde Park, NY, as well as at the Dutchess County BOCES Regional Summer School. His career in education began at Green Chimneys School in Brewster, NY where he served as a behavioral teacher assistant. He then served as a special education integrated co-teacher at Lagrange Middle School.

As both a special education teacher and administrator, Dr. Sullivan has a strong background in effective instructional practices and has collaborated with faculty, staff, and families to meet the diverse needs of all students. He is committed to creating rigorous, inclusive learning spaces with a particular focus on equity, wellness, and social justice.

“Joseph will be a tremendous asset and resource for our high school community,” said Dr. Christine Ackerman, Superintendent of Schools. “He is a lifelong learner and has spent the past decade creating safe, healthy, and positive learning experiences for students, teachers, and families across the region.”

Dr. Sullivan earned his Doctorate of Education in Instructional Leadership earlier this year from Western Connecticut State University and his dissertation was titled, “Organizational Mindfulness in Recognition Schools: Mindful Leadership Practices of Principals that Build High Reliability Learning Organizations.” He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in American History from Western Connecticut State University, a Master of Science Degree in Special Education from Mercy College, and New York State certification as both a building and district leader from SUNY New Paltz.
