Local DAR Chapter Remembers Veterans with Wreaths Across America
Polly Cooper Chapter, NSDAR honors the memory of veterans in Westchester County on National Wreaths Across America Day

(Bedford, New York) - Members of the Polly Cooper Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) honored the memory of local veterans on Saturday, December 18, 2021, for National Wreaths Across America Day.
Polly Cooper Chapter members and other volunteers sponsored and laid remembrance wreaths on the graves of more than 200 heroes at The Old Burial Grounds and Bedford Union Cemetery, both located in Bedford, Westchester County, New York. When a volunteer places a wreath on a veteran's grave on National Wreaths Across America Day, they speak that veteran's name aloud, thank them for their service and sacrifice, and reflect on that person and their life. Veterans from the Revolutionary War to current conflicts were remembered.

Polly Cooper Chapter gratefully thanks and recognizes Laurie Ciavardini, the Wreaths Across America (WAA) location coordinator. Laurie took care of the details involved with preparing for the observance and with assistance from Polly Cooper Chapter’s DAR Service to Veterans committee members Karen Mayo and Kathy Schreiber, spent many hours locating and marking graves so that each of the resting heroes could be honored.
