Local High School Students Honored for their Work with Making Headway Foundation

The One Life Club of Scarsdale HS will be honored at the 2014 National Philanthropy Day Luncheon on 11/7.

AFP Westchester to Present Leadership in Philanthropy Award to Lucille Werlinich and Youth in Philanthropy Awards to Julie Miner, and to Fazl Shaikh and Alexis Zachem of the One L1fe Club at National Philanthropy Day® Event

(Tarrytown, NY – October 23, 2014) - The Westchester County Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals will present its Leadership in Philanthropy and Youth in Philanthropy awards at its annual National Philanthropy Day® event on November 7 at the DoubleTree Hilton in Tarrytown, NY. The event features internationally recognized experts in philanthropy and offers a wide range of workshops during its day-long educational programming.

The Leadership in Philanthropy Award will be presented to Lucille Werlinich. Ms. Werlinich is Chair of the Purchase College Foundation Board of Trustees and sits on the Performing Arts Center Foundation and Friends of the Neuberger Museum boards. She also serves on the Westchester Community College Foundation Board and was a trustee on the Food Bank for Westchester board for many years.

The Youth in Philanthropy individual award will be presented to Julie Miner, a senior at Edgemont High School. Julie has been involved with The Children’s Village for four years and, this year, planned and managed her own fundraising event, which attracted 200 teens from four high schools. The event raised $3,500 for The Children’s Village cottage she and her family adopted with friends.

The Youth in Philanthropy group award will be presented to Fazl Shaikh and Alexis Zachem of the One L1fe Club at Scarsdale High School. The group ran a Cycle-a-thon for Making Headway Foundation, which provides care and comfort to children with brain and spinal cord tumors. Forty-nine cyclists participated raising over $11,000.
