Local League of Women Voters Chapter Announces New Name and Territory
The League of Women Voters of North East Westchester will include Mount Kisco, Bedford, and other area communities.

CROSS RIVER, NY – The League of Women Voters of Bedford-Lewisboro-North Salem has voted to change its name to League of Women Voters of North East Westchester (LWVNEW). The chapter’s territory will now include the towns of Mount Kisco and Pound Ridge and correspond to the Westchester County Legislative District #2.
The LWVNEW, a non-partisan political organization, will continue to provide voter education to the community through Candidate Forums, printed Voters Guides, and the electronic Voters Guide at www.Vote411.org. Voter registration efforts will continue as well; the League will register voters at Fox Lane High School this month and will staff voter registration sites later in the year at various supermarkets and other popular gathering places in the five towns.
The League also offers events of public interest at various times during the year. Past programs include presentations on affordable housing, ballot questions and hydrofracking, as well as informational coffees with local town supervisors and town justices. In 2017, the chapter will commemorate the centennial of women gaining the right to vote in New York State.

LWVNEW will also be sending a student to the Students Inside Albany conference for the third year in a row. Fox Lane junior Isabella Di Rende will travel to Albany in May to participate in the State League’s program, where students from all over New York come together to learn about state government and meet with their elected representatives.
“We expect to be extra busy this spring and summer as we gear up to present candidate information to voters in two additional towns and to welcome new members who may live in Mount Kisco or Pound Ridge,” said chapter president Susan Auslander.
