Guiding Eyes CEO To Run the Katonah 5K Sept. 6

Guiding Eyes President and CEO Tom Panek will be running the Katonah 5K on Saturday.

Panek, a South Salem resident, will be relying on a human guide as he navigates the hilly Katonah terrain, though his yellow Labrador guide dog Gus will be waiting for him at the finish line.

The route for the K5K has been changed this year—organizers promise fewer hills and more trails.

“ The beautiful trails of Katonah Park do not disappoint and Wildwood will be your steepest hill,” they warn on their Facebook page.

Pre-Registration is open online at active.com and in-store registration is available at Cross Sport Woman, 194 Katonah Ave. in Katonah. But it ends at noon Sept. 4 and prices go up.

Panek has been with Yorktown-based Guiding Eyes since February of this year. His most recent race was the Boston Marathon, and in November he’ll look forward to running in the NYC Marathon.

His new responsibilities include overseeing the expansion of Guiding Eyes’ Canine Development Center. Guiding Eyes’ Board Chair Wendy Aglietti, a Bedford resident, said she looks forward to a bright future with Tom at the helm.
