
Metro-North Railroad and the Metropolitan Transit Authority are prepping for the snowstorm that will start hitting the New York City metro area Friday.

MTA officials warn that service can be curtailed or temporarily suspended depending on the impact of any storm. Service options include reductions of service and temporary suspensions of service.

However, spokeswoman Meredith Daniels said the railroad is not now changing any train service due to this storm, which is predicted to roll into Metro-North’s territory Saturday afternoon.
“Unless that changes and it’s more significant than expected then we will keep Saturday service and Sunday service on those schedules,” she said.

Metro-North has three jet snow blowers, six cold air blowers and two tractor blower-spreaders to clear snow from tracks and third rails, in addition to 70 pickup truck plows, five backhoes and other large equipment to clear snow from stations and other areas.
Storm recovery operations will include scrutinizing catenary wires for any impacts from high winds or fallen tree branches.
