Mount Kisco, New Castle Grant for Water Plant Operations

Consolidation should save money, the Regional Economic Development Council said.

MOUNT KISCO, NY — Mount Kisco has received $144,234 from New York State for water plant operation consolidation.

The money is part of a new $700 million round of funding awarded through New York's Regional Economic Development Council initiative, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced last week.

Mount Kisco, with the Town of New Castle, will share monitoring of water supply and filtration functions. It has been estimated that the Village could save $43,000 per year. In addition, this operational change will extend the life of the equipment in the facilities reducing capital repair and replacement costs, according to the REDC.

"This is the first step in a long process of obtaining permission from the health department to consider allowing the Millwood Water Treatment plant to monitor the Mt Kisco water system," said New Castle Town Supervisor Rob Greenstein.

“Through the Regional Economic Development Councils, we have replaced the ‘one-size fits all’ approach to economic growth with a ‘ground-up’ strategy that focuses on cooperation and investing in regional assets to generate opportunity,” Cuomo said in his announcement. “By bringing together ideas from local government and community leaders with state resources, we are giving these councils the tools to create jobs and drive economic activity in their communities for generations to come. I congratulate the Regional Councils on their awards, and look forward to continuing to work together to build a stronger New York for all.”
