Mt. Kisco Partners in Prevention presents "Vape Culture," an overview for concerned parents
Nationally, twice as many high school kids vape as smoke, and middle school students prefer vaping over smoking.

In light of the alarming increase of e-cigarette use among young people in a popular cultural trend known as “vaping,” Samantha Ortiz-Herard from The Mid-Hudson Prevention Resource Center will be the featured speaker at the Mt. Kisco Partners In Prevention monthly meeting. The meeting will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 7pm, at Town Hall, 104 Main Street, Mount Kisco, NY and her presentation “Vape Culture” is free and open to the public.
“Vaping and the use of e-cigarettes is an evolving area of concern for parents, health care professionals and those on the front lines of fighting drug and alcohol addiction and abuse. Mt. Kisco Partners in Prevention is pleased to be at the forefront of bringing our community the very latest information available on this important topic,” said Nan Miller, PhD, LCSW, Coordinator, Mt. Kisco Partners In Prevention.
Ms. Otiz-Herard will cover the following topics and provide answers to these questions: What is vaping? What are the health risks? What substances can be vaped? How do vaporizers work? How are they being marketed? How are they being regulated?

“We are beginning to see data about the potential effects of vaping on a short term basis, but this trend is so new, that there is no evidence to determine long term health impacts. We want to share what we already know and the presentation will answer many questions,” said Ortiz-Herard.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting this month that today almost twice as many high school kids vape as smoke, and that middle school students prefer vaping over smoking. That signals an alarming trend and a complete reversal from just three years ago, when the National Youth Tobacco Survey determined that nearly three times as many U.S. high school kids smoked versus vaping.
