Mount Kisco Retailers Holding 'Small Biz Scavenger Hunt'

The event is being led by organizer of Occupy Main Street group, will include prizes for local businesses.

Since helping to set up as a vehicle for addressing Mount Kisco's rise in downtown retail vacancies, Sarah O'Grady has been working on several initiatives to bring people to the village.

The latest, called the Small Biz Scavenger Hunt, will start today at 9 a.m. at and continue for much of the day. The goal is to solve riddles and find six hidden tickets, which will get folks prizes from local retailers.

Participating businesses include , , , , , , and Little Spice Bazaar.

Clues will be given out through Occupy Main Street's Facebook page and through Twitter. People who find the tickets are instructed to take photos of themselves with tickets in hand, then to upload them to the group's Facebook page. They are then asked to email O'Grady with their ticket numbers and contact information.

Prizes include restaurant gift cards, frozen yogurt, clothes and cocktails, according to the announcement.

O'Grady explained that she came up with the event after hearing from retailers that it was Small Business Week, but that there wasn't an effort locally to do something about it.

She said that she thought about what could be engaging, fun and hasn't been done before in Mount Kisco. "And I arrived at a scavenger hunt," she answered.

Feedback has been strong so far. O'Grady said that every retailer she brought the event up to asked about getting involved.

O'Grady isn't done yet. Her next venture, , will include live music and particpation from local businesses. The Village Board of Trustees approved the July 15 event after O'Grady, along with fellow Occupy Main Street organizer Maria Colaco, showed up and described it at a recent meeting. There will be a planning meeting for Kisco Summer Sunday this coming Tuesday, at 7 p.m. at the .
