Despite Title Loss, Mt. Kisco 10U Baseball Finishes Strong

The team's championship appearance was the culmination of a hard-fought season that included a nearly tragic experience from Mikey Corsi.

Mt. Kisco Little League's 10 and Under boys team made it all the way to the championship game, but came up short Saturday, in a close 10-9 loss against Lewisboro.

The championship appearance was the end of a strong season for the Mt. Kisco 10's, who had a 16-2 regular season record, the best in the 10 and Under American group for the Westchester Putnam Baseball Association. For Lewisboro's 10U age cohort, the championship win represented a repeat for the group, who won last year's 9 and Under title.

Mt. Kisco's team faced a tough personal challenge this year, as teammate Mikey Corsi suffered a stopped heart at a June 30 game against Lewisboro. He was saved through CPR by Dr. Carmine Sorbera, a Lewisboro cardiologist who is the cousin of coach Ralph Nuzzi. Corsi's ordeal led to a wave of community support, as Mt. Kisco Little League and was honored at a clinic earlier this month at the White Plains Sports Authority, which featured former Yankee and Met Dwight Gooden.

Corsi returned to the field on Aug. 2 for another regular season game against Lewisboro, in which the ceremonial first pitch.

The Mt. Kisco 10's team also had the best performace among kids teams in Mount Kisco and New Castle, the only one to make it to a championship of any kids age level.
