New Castle Police Warn of Water Bill Phone Scam
Other local communities have also had callers threaten to turn off water and demanding payment over the phone.
A New Castle resident reported she received a phone call purporting to be from the town water department.
The caller threatened to shut off her water if she did not send an immediate payment.
The New Castle Water Department will call on the phone to collect past-due payments or with a threat of a shut-off, even if a resident is in arrears, police said. They recommend anyone who gets such a call simply hang up.
