New Principal For Douglas Grafflin Elementary

The Chappaqua Central School District is delighted to have Mrs. Bartlik return to its community of learners.

From Chappaqua Schools: On June 27, the Chappaqua Central School District Board of Education appointed Mrs. Carol Bartlik as the next Principal of Douglas Grafflin Elementary School, effective July 1, 2018. Mrs. Bartlik will replace Jamie Edelman, who will now serve as the District’s Director of Literacy, K-12.

With over 25 years of experience as an elementary classroom teacher in Westchester and Long Island, Mrs. Bartlik is currently serving as principal of Seely Place Elementary School in the Edgemont UFSD. Prior to that, she served as principal of Greenwood Lake Elementary School and assistant principal at Roaring Brook Elementary School here in Chappaqua. While at Roaring Brook, she served as a Reading and Writing Workshop professional developer, a lead evaluator for teachers, chair of the Committee on Special Education, PTA liaison, and chair of the Response to Intervention team.

Mrs. Bartlik’s appointment is the result of a rigorous interview process that included numerous meetings with various school and community stakeholder groups as well as a site visit conducted by Superintendent Dr. Christine Ackerman, Grafflin Principal Jamie Edelman, and Director of Special Education and Related Services Dr. Heidi McCarthy. During the visit, it immediately became evident that Mrs. Bartlik is sensitive to individual student’s needs and knows how to make all children feel special. It also was stated many times that she understands the balance between the need to push all students academically, but at the same time help shape them as people.

“I am thrilled to be working again with Carol,” said Dr. Ackerman. “As a respected and experienced leader, combined with her knowledge of elementary curriculum, experience in early literacy instruction, and enthusiasm for growth and collaboration, I know she is the ideal person to lead Grafflin in its pursuit of developmentally appropriate teaching and learning experiences along with the enhancement of professional practices.”

Mrs. Bartlik is a graduate of the Bank Street College of Education’s highly rigorous Administrative Leadership and Supervision Ed.M. program. She also received an M.A. in Elementary Education from Adelphi University and a B.A. in Communication Studies from SUNY Oswego.
