New Principal Named At Roaring Brook

Ms. Doreen O'Leary will be the next Principal of Roaring Brook Elementary School, effective July 1, 2018.

From CCSD: On May 23, the Chappaqua Central School District Board of Education appointed Ms. Doreen O’Leary as the next Principal of Roaring Brook Elementary School, effective July 1, 2018.

Currently serving as Principal of Island Avenue Elementary School in Madison, Connecticut since 2013, Ms. O’Leary began her career in education implementing a variety of instructional and assessment practices as an elementary school teacher for Stamford Public Schools. She also has served as an Assistant Principal for Weston Public Schools and has previous experience as a curriculum project manager and curriculum associate.

Ms. O’Leary’s appointment is the result of a rigorous, multi-faceted interview process that included well over 100 applicants. She met numerous times with various school and community stakeholder groups, and Superintendent Dr. Christine Ackerman and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development Dr. Kusum Sinha also conducted a site visit. Throughout the entire process, everyone spoke glowingly about Ms. O’Leary’s implementation of a social-emotional curriculum, deep understanding of teaching and learning practices, and her strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Committed to creating a positive school culture dedicated to meeting the needs of all students, Ms. O’Leary is well versed in the implementation of best practices including professional learning communities, instructional coaching, and balanced assessments. “Among her other attributes, it is Doreen’s strong background in elementary education, deep understanding of child development, and her reflective approach to educational leadership that makes her the ideal candidate to lead Roaring Brook,” Dr. Ackerman said.
Ms. O’Leary received her undergraduate degree in political science from Georgetown University and holds a master’s degree in finance and accounting from the UCLA Graduate School of Management. After a career change, she received a master’s degree in elementary education as well as her Administrator Certification from Sacred Heart University.
