The Hospital Safety Score, which is a public service provided by The Leapfrog Group, a national, independent nonprofit organization “committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health system,” has handed out its latest hospital safety grades for the spring of 2016.

“Safety, quality and patient and family engagement go hand-in-hand, and Northern Westchester Hospital is committed to providing patients the highest quality and safest care possible. Our staff members are empowered to ensure our patients are safe when they are in our care, and our approach to patient-centered process design and governance gives each staff member a voice which enables us to continuously improve on all aspects of patient safety,” said Joel Seligman, President & CEO, Northern Westchester Hospital.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score is the first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, is free to the public and is designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay. The Leapfrog Group assigned scores to more than 2,500 hospitals nationwide, including 143 hospitals in New York.

Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D, or F score, representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm.
