A White October Leaves Outages, Snow Emergencies [Update]

Rare October snow causes havoc.

Update 4: As of 1:19 p.m. Sunday, the numbers are 4,471 for New Castle and 3,857 for Mount Kisco. No restoration time is given for either community. For the latest outage stats, click here for Con Edison's map.

Also, New Castle police sent out an alert asking residents not to call them or town officials about power outage questions, as their emergency system is getting bogged down from the extra volume.

Update 3: As of 9:50 a.m. Sunday, outages are at 3,628 for New Castle and 3,817 for Mount Kisco, according to Con Edison's stats.

Meanwhile, New Castle police sent out a Nixle alert warning the public about downed wires leading to several road closures. Click here for the alert.

Update 2: As of 10:19 p.m. Saturday, outages are at 3,398 for New Castle and 2448 for Mount Kisco, according to Con Edison. There is no specified restoration time for either community.

Update: As of 6:02 p.m., Saturday, 2,344 customers in New Castle are without power, while the number is 438 for Mount Kisco, according to Con Edison. 

Original Story, Saturday Afternoon:

Snow is the last thing folks may think about when it comes to October, but with flurries the storm is as powerful as any.

Hundreds of customers throughout New Castle and Mount Kisco (1,865 and 271), respectively) are without power as of 5:33 p.m., according to Con Edison. There was a report of a downed tree along Route 100 in Millwood, the 511 NY service tweets. The service also reported a downed tree disrupting the Saw Mill River Parkway in Mount Kisco.

The situation has gotten to the point where both municipalities have had to declare snow emergenices. New Castle's took effect at 3 p.m. on Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday, while Mount Kisco's runs from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday. In both communities, on-street parking is banned under penalty of getting ticketed, in order to give plows more room to operate. Parking is free in municipal Mount Kisco lots during the snow emergency.
