Kids marched through downtown Chappaqua for opening day.

Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Chappaqua on Saturday morning to march in the annual opening day parade for the New Castle Baseball and Softball Association. Kids at the parade, who are in grades K-4, are organized by teams, which were named after major leage teams for boys baseball and colleges for girls softball, according to Lou "Strike" Macente, who volunteers with the group. The kids in the spring league play each other, then player people outside of town in their summer league, he said.

The march began near the Community Center on Senter Street and ended on the Recreation Field by South Greeley Avenue, where the teams gathered for a banner competition - prizes will be pizza parties for winning team, Macente said - and a rendition of Take Me Out to the Ball Game. The season runs until June.
