RACE 4 A CURE EVENT SHINES SPOTLIGHT ON DEADLY CANCER

Event to Raise Urgently Needed Funds for Pancreatic Cancer Research

The 2nd annual Lustgarten Foundation Race 4 A Cure will take place on Friday, February 26th from 6-9 p.m. at Grand Prix New York, a fun-filled family and corporate entertainment complex in Mount Kisco. The fundraiser will be open to the public and is for children of all ages. Admission includes passed hors d’oeuvres from highly acclaimed Restaurant North and Kira Sushi, open bar, buffet dinner and dessert stations, music from Total Entertainment, “Arrive and Drive” indoor go kart racing, bowling at GPNY’s Spins Bowl lanes, bounce house and a $20 credit for the arcade.

All proceeds will benefit The Lustgarten Foundation, the nation’s largest private funder of pancreatic cancer research, and will help accelerate the path towards a cure for this aggressive, life-threatening disease.

“I was inspired to honor my father’s memory and make a commitment to ensuring that other families don’t have to suffer like we did,” said Hope Wolfe of Bedford, event co-founder and committee chairperson. “We are on the verge of scientific breakthroughs in pancreatic cancer, and I am hopeful that with increased funding raised through Race 4 A Cure and other community events, The Lustgarten Foundation’s researchers will continue to move us significantly closer to a cure. “

About Pancreatic Cancer
With an overall survival rate of just eight percent over five years, pancreatic cancer has no early detection tests, no effective long-term treatments and, unless the cancer is surgically removed in its earliest stages, no cure. An estimated 53,000 Americans will be diagnosed this year alone, and more than 41,000 will die of the disease. The Lustgarten Foundation is working to change these grim statistics by advancing the scientific and medical research related to the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure of pancreatic cancer. Research efforts underway include:

· Clinical trials to develop blood tests and new imaging strategies to detect pancreatic cancer earlier

· Studies focused on immunotherapy and new drug combinations to identify more effective treatment options

· New methods of drug delivery to ensure the drug reaches the pancreatic tumor

About The Lustgarten Foundation
The Lustgarten Foundation is America’s largest private foundation dedicated to funding pancreatic cancer research. Based in Bethpage, New York, the Foundation supports research to find a cure for pancreatic cancer, facilitates dialogue within the medical and scientific community, and educates the public about the disease through awareness campaigns and fundraising events. Since its inception, the Foundation has directed more than $110 million to research and assembled the best scientific minds with the hope that one day, a cure can be found. Cablevision Systems Corporation, a leading media and telecommunications company, underwrites The Lustgarten Foundation’s administrative costs, so 100 percent of every dollar donated to the Foundation goes directly to pancreatic cancer research. The Lustgarten Foundation and Cablevision are also partners in the curePC public awareness campaign in support of the fight against pancreatic cancer.
