Solarize Somers-New Castle Extends Discount Deadline

More than 60 homeowners have signed contracts so the program offers the lowest possible prices.

Leaders of the local Solarize Somers-New Castle campaign said they have agreed to extend the program pricing until March 31 due to increased demand and incredible enthusiasm from area homeowners.

If you're a resident interested in taking advantage of steep community solar discounts, you have just over three weeks to be part of this widely successful Solarize initiative.

More than 400 residents have signed up for a free, no-obligation site assessment and more than 60 homeowners have signed contracts thereby helping the program reach its lowest possible price since Solarize Somers-New Castle launched in late October 2015.

Since then local volunteers along with the program’s pre-qualified and vetted installer partner, Direct Energy Solar, have hosted nearly 10 educational workshops and tabling events across the region.

As the campaign nears 75 new solar homes, Direct Energy Solar has offered to donate a 5 kilowatt solar system to both towns to be installed at a community-chosen site. Not only does this donation reward the local volunteer teams, but it proves Direct Energy Solar’s commitment to helping Somers and New Castle be leading green communities in Westchester County.

New Castle Supervisor Rob Greenstein signed a contract with the program earlier this winter.

“I want our town to be a leader in sustainability and green living. We owe this to our friends, neighbors, and to the next generation of New Yorkers,” said Greenstein, quoted in the statement from Solarize officials. “Solarize Somers-New Castle has helped us double the number of solar installations in New Castle—that’s incredible progress in a short period of time, and we can’t wait to see that number increase under the new March 31st deadline."

Solarize Somers-New Castle currently leads all the communities that are part of Solarize Westchester’s current round in contracts signed. Homeowners can still sign up for a free, no-obligation solar assessment on the program website or by calling Direct Energy Solar at 800-903-6130. (Commercial property owners have until late April.)
