Sports Recap: April 16 - 24

Fox Lane Girls Lax continues undefeated, Greeley baseball is on a roll.

Fox Lane Foxes

Baseball

Fox Lane baseball has started the season with a seven-game winning streak. On Monday the Foxes crushed Port Chester 15-4. Following a close win against Harrison in its next game, the Foxes trounced over Port Chester again 17-2.

Softball

The Foxes Softball team is off to a great start as well, and is currently on a seven-game winning streak. The Foxes easily took care of the Port Chester Rams 9-0 Tuesday behind two RBI's from Jackie Gigante and Christy Lombardi. It was even easier on Wednesday as they crushed the Rams 23-6 for the sweep. Fox Lane was led by three RBIs each from Alison Lombardi and Christy Lombardi. Friday's game was more difficult, but the Foxes pulled through, 10-6 over John Jay.

Boys Lacrosse

Fox Lane's boys lacrosse team improved its record to 4-2 on the season winning both of its games this past week. Victories came on the road at Briarcliff, 11-4, and Harrison 14-3. Cameron Stephens had 15 saves in the net against Briarcliff. Conor Morris scored three goals while Sam Robinson and Dylan Faitell contributed two. Faitell netted four goals to lead the Foxes at Harrison along with Robinson's three. Morris and Josh Wollman each scored two.

Girls Lacrosse

Fox Lane's girls lacrosse team had to work extra hard to pull out two victories this week, the first a 21-15 win at Pleasantville, where Lindsay Toppe scored eight goals. The second was a 21-20 edger over John Jay, where she had six. Rye was the next opponent in Fox Lane's way. The Foxes handled it well, winning 10-9 behind three goals each from Toppe and Lexi Cannon to currently stand at 9-0.


Horace Greeley Quakers

Baseball

Horace Greeley's baseball team has gone on a four-game unbeaten streak after a 13-13 tie with New Rochelle. Wins include a 10-3 win over Rye on Monday, a 6-3 victory over Rye on Wednesday for the sweep, followed by an 8-4 win over Harrison to currently stand at 5-1-1. They are heading into an away game against the Harrison Huskies on Tuesday.

Softball

In softball action at Greeley, after sweeping Rye 14-1 and 7-2, the Quakers were shut out 4-0 by the Harrison. Hannah Marks and Emily Taylor led the Quakers' offensive output with two RBIs each against Rye. The Harrison game turned into a pitching duel between Greeley's freshman pitcher Jamie Weisser and Harrison's senior pitcher Ashley Marino.

Boys Lacrosse

It was a tough week for the Greeley boys lacrosse team, which lost both games this past week by three goals. The first was a 13-10 high scoring affair at the hands of John Jay High School. This was followed by a 5-2 defeat to Byram Hills, dropping the Quakers' record to 1-6. The Quakers look to obtain their second win at home against Rye on Tuesday. Dan Leventhal led the Quakers with three goals while Alex Cohen had two against John Jay. Gabe Weismann recorded seven saves. Nate Becker scored Greeley's lone two goals against Byram Hills.

Girls Lacrosse

The girls lacrosse team had slightly more success, winning one out of its four games on the week. After a 14-9 loss to the Somers Tuskers on April 16, the Quakers recorded a 15-4 win at home over North Rockland on Tuesday. Things turned sour from there, however, with two straight losses at the hands of Rye and Pleasantville. Ariane Crummer tallied eight saves in the goal in the win over North Rockland.
