Sports Recap: Chappaqua to Host Diving Championships
Plenty of teams competing in New Castle adult softball.
It was a successful regular-season for Chappaqua’s entry in the Northern Westchester Swimming Conference. The team finished in second place with a 4-1 record in Division I, the highest division in the NWSC.
Chappaqua will now host the conference’s diving championships on Wednesday. The warm-up will be at 5 p.m. with competition starting at 5:45 p.m.
“It gives our divers a chance to get recognition,” Chappaqua swimming coach Dan Levy said. “It’s nice that we are able to have that meet for them at home.”

The swimming championships will be at Mount Kisco Memorial Pool on Saturday. Warm-ups will be at 8:30 a.m. with the meet beginning at 9 a.m.
Levy feels that his squad was able to enjoy its 4-1 record because of the amount of participants it has on this year’s squad. Chappaqua, whose ages of participants on the team range from 4 to 19, has 94 kids on its team, including both swimmers and divers.

The divers are coached by Kelly McCauley.
Some of the team members swim exclusively, others concentrate on only diving and there is another group that does both according to Levy.
“Our team has been growing a lot in the last couple of years,” Levy said. “We have 94 kids on the team this year, which is the most we have ever had. That has contributed a lot to our success.”
What also contributes to Chappaqua’s success according to Levy is that it has a coaching staff that is willing to get in the pool and work with the kids and also having kids that are willing to work hard themselves.
“The 4 to 10-year-olds, we get in the water with them and have hands-on instruction,” Levy said. “The parents see that and they really like it.”
Besides making sure the kids get the proper tutelage they need, Levy and his staff also makes sure that the program is fun for those that participate and that they give back to the community.
That has included a practice based on the famous Harry Potter movie plus raising money for cancer research.
“We do others things besides swimming,” Levy said. “The combination of the stuff outside of swimming plus the swimming itself makes for a fun program to be a part of.”
