Sports Recap: Fox Lane Grad Toppe in Florida Showcase
Trawick makes cut; Willowbrook and Chappaqua standout in NWSC.

Fox Lane’s girls lacrosse season may have ended in the Section 1 Class B championship game when it lost to Yorktown 16-15 on May 25.
However, the lacrosse season never really ended for recent Fox Lane graduate and All-American attack star Lindsay Toppe.
Toppe has taken her game up a notch, if that is possible, by participating in some of the best showcase events in the country. She is playing this week in the Champion All-American Showcase, which is being held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

Players were selected for the showcase by high school coaches throughout the country.
The tournament started on Sunday and goes through Tuesday (July 17-19). There are four teams involved in the tournament and each team plays four games.

Toppe is playing on Team Freedom, which is being coached by Brooke Watson (Germantown Academy, Pa.) and Dara Robbins (St. Francis High School, Calif.).
Team Liberty, Team Pride and Team Spirit make up the other three teams competing in the round-robin tournament.
Playing on Team Freedom with Toppe is future Cornell University teammate, defender Christine Ferguson. Ferguson is from Weston, Mass., and graduated from St. Paul’s School.
Toppe also played on the same team as Ferguson on the North squad, which beat the South 15-10, in the Sixth Annual Under Armour All-American Lacrosse Classic at Towson University’s Johnny Unitas Stadium on July 2.
“It is really cool to be on the same team with her again,” said Toppe on July 16 from the Sunshine State. “It’s a great feeling to start playing with her.”
Besides getting to play more top-notch competition, what makes the trip to Florida extra special to Toppe is getting to see family.
“My cousins are here in Florida so I am able to visit them too,” Toppe said.
Of course, the main reason for the trip is lacrosse and for that she is very grateful for.
“I really enjoy being able to play at this high level,” Toppe said. “It’s a little different than tournaments that I played when I was younger. This is a little different because it’s great to meet people who are enthusiastic about lacrosse as you are.”
Toppe already got a taste of playing at the highest level at the Under Armour Classic, where she tallied a goal and an assist. Her score came on an unassisted goal with less than four minutes remaining which sealed the game for the North.
John Jay’s Casey Bocklet also played in the contest, registering an assist.
“I thought it was really cool,” Toppe said. “It was a lot of fun because everyone there plays at such a high level. Every player there had incredible stick skills. You definitely had to bring your ‘A’ game because if you made a mistake, the other team would recover the ball and be able to come down and score.”
Trawick makes cut
Fox Lane’s Will Trawick has made the cut to the final 12 for the Hudson Valley squad that is competing in the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) Festival Aug. 5-7 on various courts in the Johnson City School District upstate.
The final roster will have 10 players on it with two alternates.
Swimming
Willowbrook has gotten off to a 3-0 start in Division I of the Northern Westchester Swim Conference with wins over visiting Katonah 271-249, host Birchwood 299-235 and visiting Chappaqua 277-256.
Chappaqua had won its first three meets, 255-238 against visiting Yorktown, 274-221 versus visiting Katonah and 273.4-243.5 against host Mount Kisco Memorial.
