Located on Lexington Avenue, Thai Angel's is in one of the most unassuming locations in Mount Kisco but worth searching out for authentic Thai cuisine. There seems to be a large number of Asian fusion restaurants in our area that have opened in the past few years but Thai Angel's tries hard to be true to its roots. We got an enthusiastic greeting each time we entered the front door, which is a wonderful way to start a meal.
The menu offers a wide array of options. You can pick from a large assortment of appetizers, soups and salads. Then, you can also choose from noodles, curry dishes, fried rice and seafood, poultry, beef, pork and vegetarian entrée possibilities with an additional list of house specials.
On a recent Sunday night, my husband, sister-in-law, the kids and I tried dishes from almost all sections of the menu. The Thai Spring Rolls ($5.95) were small and crunchy, but I would have loved a little more filling. My daughter had the Steamed Shrimp Shumai ($5.95). I sneaked my fork over and took a bite of one – it was delicious. They were obviously homemade – crunchy and full of seafood flavor. Our next choice for a starter was the Todd Munn (Fish Cakes) for $7.95. In this case it is obviously an authentic dish and therefore an acquired taste. The consistency was spongy, as if it was a mousse mixed with tofu. These were not our favorite, but I do appreciate being offered cuisine that is not normally available. You'll never know if you like something if you don't get a chance to try it!

Next, I tried the Wonton Soup Shrimp ($4.95). I love traditional Chinese wonton soup and this version was delicious. The broth had a depth of flavor and the added vegetables were fresh and crunchy. The Mango Salad ($7.95) was another winner. This salad was mixed greens with shredded raw mango, hot chili peppers, garlic, red onion and mint with a spicy lime dressing and roasted peanuts. The Yum Neur (Thai Beef Salad for $13.95) that I had for lunch later that week had just beef and greens. It actually would have been a delicious addition to the Mango Salad ingredients and I may ask for that on my next visit.
My daughter had the Pad Thai ($12.95). It was a good choice - not too sweet - with chicken, turnips, bean sprouts and ground peanuts. I had the Drunken Noodles with Shrimp ($13.95) and I have to say it is, by far, my favorite dish from the restaurant. It is spicy (and I mean spicy to someone who really likes spicy). The dish has large fresh rice noodles stir-fried with eggs and vegetables in basil sauce and is available with chicken, beef, tofu, shrimp, scallops or calamari. This is a dish not to be missed.

Our next shared dish was Green Thai Curry with Pork ($12.95). It was a flavorsome mixture of basil, green beans, peas and eggplant. You can also get Red Curry with basil, red and green peppers, eggplant and bamboo shoots, or Yellow Curry with apples, green and red peppers, white onion and potatoes. All of the curries can be made with your choice of tofu, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, calamari or scallops. For anyone that is not a fan of Indian curries, try Thai curry. Generally mixed with coconut milk, it is a fresh, complex taste that most diners fall in love with.
On my next visit I am going to try the Choo Chee Duck ($18.95). It is a boneless half duck with Choo Chee curry sauce, basil, pineapple, green peas, red and green peppers, onions, tomatoes, basil and mushrooms. It looked scrumptious!
Another one of my favorites was the Pad Ka Prow for $14.95. This is stir-fried ground beef or chicken with basil, onions and scallions in a chili garlic sauce. I had the beef version over brown rice but it also would have been fantastic wrapped in lettuce leaves for a low carbohydrate option.
The Thai Lunch Special would be a great way to try the food before fully committing to multiple courses. Mondays through Fridays from 11:30 am – 3:00 pm you can pick from 7 entrée options that come with a choice of soup or salad for $9.95.
The service is helpful and friendly, and the ambiance is almost as if you are dining in someone's home. Thai Angel's would be a great choice for a weeknight dinner with your companion or a girls' night out. The effort to make good food is there and on many occasions it hits the mark.
