Voters Guide to the Bedford Central School District Election

Budget and trustee vote is May 19; one of two open seats on the board is contested

Voters go to the polls May 19 to choose candidates for the Bedford Board of Education and vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on the district’s $127 million budget proposal for 2015-16.

The deadline to register to vote in the election is May 14.

There are two seats on which registered voters may vote. Both are for 3-year terms ending in 2018. Voters may vote for one candidate for each seat.

Also, there are two more informational meetings left on the budget: May 13 at 7:30 pm at Mount Kisco Elementary School; and May 15 at 9:30 am at Bedford Village Elementary School.

On May 19, polls are open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Registered voters may vote by machine at the elementary school serving their attendance area.

To find out if you are registered to vote, you may contact the Westchester County Board of Elections at 995-5700 or Carole LaColla, District Clerk, at 241-6011. If you are registered to vote in local or national elections, you are automatically registered to vote in School District Elections. However, if you have not voted in the past four years, your voter registration would be marked inactive and you are required to re-register to vote.

Please note that the deadline to register in the schools is five days prior to the election.

If a registered voter believes s/he may be out of town on the day of the vote, s/he may complete an application for absentee ballot and return to the District Clerk no later than seven days prior to the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter; or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.

Ballots may only be delivered to the voter.

Applications for absentee ballot must be submitted by May 12 if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or May 18, if the ballot is to be handed to the voter. Completed applications for absentee ballot are to be submitted to the District Clerk in the Administration Building on Fox Lane Campus.
