Voting Today for Fire District Commissioners

CHAPPAQUA, NY — Polls open this afternoon for fire commissioner elections in Millwood Fire District and New Castle Fire District No. 1.

NEW CASTLE FIRE DISTRICT No. 1
Two Fire Commissioner positions are open, one for a 5-year term and one for a 3-year term.

Residents can vote from 2 - 9 p.m. at the Bedford Road Firehouse at the intersection of Route 120 and Route 117.
On the ballot John Buckley is running uncontested for the 5-year term and Nancy Zezze is running uncontested for the 3-year term. In addition, New Castle resident Danna Schoenberg is running a write-in campaign for the three-year term. One resident who had planned to run did not submit the petition after being threatened with harm to herself and her business should she do so, which is under investigation by New Castle police.

The district became the source of controversy this fall over the Board of Fire Commissioners' proposal to expand the Chappaqua firehouse, a plan that was rejected by voters. There was strong feeling among residents about what the Fire District was requesting, and a lot of questioning and misinformation about the fire department's activities and its future.

MILLWOOD FIRE DISTRICT
Two Fire Commissioner positions are open, one for a 5-year term and one for a 1-year term.

Polls are open from 6- 9 p.m. at the Millwood Firehouse at 100 Millwood Road (Route 133).

Charles Canero, Robert Nesbit and Michael Wolfensohn are running for the 5-year term. Jason Lichtenthal is running uncontested for the 1-year term.
