Westchester Among Fastest Growing Private Sector Job Markets in NY
A new report puts the county region fourth in the state.

New data from the New York Department of Labor show that Westchester and Rockland counties were among the places where private sector jobs grew most rapidly over the past 12 months.
- Kingston (+3.8%)
- Watertown-Fort Drum (+3.8%)
- New York City (+3.0%)
- Orange-Rockland-Westchester (+2.1%)
- Ithaca (+1.4%)
- Nassau-Suffolk (+1.4%)
Putnam and Dutchess counties, considered a region for this report, didn't gain any private-sector jobs; but, they didn't lose any either -- unlike the situation in past reports. For example, in the 12 months ending in November, the Putnam-Dutchess metro area lost 2.7 percent of its private sector jobs, state labor officials said.
Statewide, New York's private sector job count increased In January 2016 by 14,600, or 0.2 percent, to 7,868,100, a new record high, according to preliminary figures released today by the labor department.
