Nickerson won six national high school championships. Most recently, Nickerson served as an assistant wrestling coach for the Finger Lakes Wrestling Club in Ithaca, N.Y. While coaching at FLWC, Nickerson constructed and ran wrestling practices for youth, high school, college and senior age divisions. He was the head coach of the FLWC college team during the 2010-11 season.
Iowa State University has also just announced that Troy will join the wrestling staff next season as an assistant to head Coach Kevin Jackson. Troy is arguable the most decorated wrestler EVER to come out of NY and he will be in Westchester to teach our kids his winning ways.
“Attending this camp is a no-brainer,” says Billy Watterson, a 2010 All-State wrestler from John Jay now wrestling for Brown University, “Having attended this camp the past four seasons, I have seen much growth in my technique and mental toughness.”
NYS Champion, Ryan Osleeb, Harvard University wrestler from North Salem adds “Training with Troy Nickerson is one of the highlights of my career so far. His technique is cutting edge and the discussions about his mental game are worth the price of admission alone.”
This camp is broken down into 4 sessions each day with lunch and a Motivational speech. “We give the kids a chance to interact with Troy during our breaks,” says the host of the camp, Coach Bill Swertfager, “Troy loves working with the kids and answers all the questions they present him with. This camp has been a great success over the past 6 years and we are expecting this year to be even better. We will be bringing in 15 local stars that are wrestling in college to be the counselors and mentors to all the campers. We break into small groups on a regular basis, so every kids needs are met. ”
Also featured in this camp is 2X All-American, Joe Mazzurco. Joe has been Section 1’s All- time wins record holder. He later went on to Cornell and had a phenomenal career on the mat and in the classroom. “Just being around these 2 quality individuals for 4 days is worth the price of admission. The advice and knowledge they bring is priceless”
With athletes like Troy Nickerson and Joe Mazzurco, the only option for a wrestler is improvement and success. This camp looks to better the skill of wrestlers at every level, regardless if it is your first or tenth year wrestling!
This camp begins on Monday June 25th and continues until Thursday June 28th from 9am to 3 pm. Evening sessions from 6pm to 8pm are also available if the day session’s conflict with other activities! There are only 100 spots available for this camp so hurry and sign up! For more information call Bill Swertfager at 914-232-5270 or visit jjnywrestling.wix.com/newyorkwrestlingcamp to register.
