Yoga for Scoliosis at Quest Yoga Arts

with Deborah Wolk Sunday April 17th from 10:30am - 5:30pm 11 East Main St. Mt. Kisco

Teaching students with scoliosis demands skills in seeing and understanding the body as well as modifying the asanas appropriately. The workshop is appropriate for class assistants, yoga teachers, body workers, and teens & parents wishing to learn more about how to work with their students/clients with scoliosis and about yoga practice with scoliosis. Both students with scoliosis and those interested in embarking on a safe yoga practice focused on internal and external balance will also benefit from this workshop. Topics covered are:

• The anatomy and physiology of scoliosis

• How to understand and “see” lateral asymmetry and rotation

• How scoliosis affects spatial and balance issues

• How scoliosis affects the nervous system and can create joint issues and pain

• Asana to realign and connect with the limbs

• Asana and breath techniques to create awareness, relieve pain, balance the nervous system and in some cases, stabilize the curves themselves

• Ways to practice at home

Teachers are especially encouraged to attend this workshop with their students with scoliosis so they can work with and learn from them in the workshop setting.
Students and brand new beginners with scoliosis are also invited to join.
