Elderly Man Beaten In Herald Square Station, $200 Stolen: NYPD

CHELSEA, NY — A 70-year-old man was beaten and robbed of $200 cash inside the Herald Square subway station Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The victim was exiting a northbound N train at West 32nd Street and Broadway when he was punched in the head and body by an unknown male assailant about 10:55 a.m., police said.

The man forced the victim to the ground before he snatched $200 from his pockets, police said. He also kicked the victim’s cell phone onto the subway tracks.
The assailant is described as five feet six inches tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a beige hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sneakers and carrying a black backpack.

Anyone with information in regard to the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

As of Wednesday, New York City has 12,390 reported robberies incidents so far in 2023, according to city data. That's down about 5.9 percent from the same time the previous year.

In the 14th precinct where the robbery took place, police have seen 353 robbery incidents so far in 2023. That’s compared to 466 reported this time last year.
