Deborah of Commack (that's me!) - Show & Tell 11/5/2013

Deborah of Commack brought one of her special treasures: a handbag meticulously crocheted in the 1930s by her paternal grandmother. Deb’s grandmother went to work at 13 years old (in the early ‘20s) to help support her family. She worked for a fashion house. Her job was to go to couture fashion shows and commit to memory all the details of the garments on the ...runway, from collars, buttons, trim, then go back to the fashion house and recreate from memory all garments at a cheaper price. Yep, there were knockoffs back in the ‘20s, too! Needless to say, Deb’s grandma was an expert seamstress, crocheter, and knitter. Deb wears this purse often, smiling all the while, remembering my dear grandma.
