Police ID Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car in Suffolk County
The crash occurred Monday morning, police say.
SMITHTOWN, NY — A man died after being hit by a car in Smithtown Monday morning, according to Suffolk Police.
Gregg Mofle, 47, of Smithtown was driving a 2012 Chevrolet van westbound on Jericho Turnpike, near Wyandanch Boulevard, when he struck 59-year-old Vito Dispigna, of Shirley, who was standing in the right lane at 5:45 a.m., police said.
Dispigna was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Mofle was not injured. No criminal charges have been filed.
Jericho Turnpike was closed down near the crash scene for about two hours Monday morning.
